In the historical chronicles there are records in which it is said that the remains of distilleries dating back to the 14th century were found in this region. In 2010, Armagnac officially celebrated its 700th anniversary, celebrations were held around the world.
A brief history of the House Jeanne One of the most famous houses of Armagnac is considered to be the House of Janneau (Jeanneau). It was founded in 1851 by Pierre Etienne Jeannot in Condom in the heart of the old Gascony region. And during this time, four generations of the Jeannot family have changed, which pass on the secrets of cooking Armagnac from father to son. Today Janneau House is one of the largest industrial enterprises and places of storage of products in the Armagnac area, producing exclusively Super Premium Quality Armagnac. Production and technological processes House Jeannot in 1972 resumed the method of double distillation of the drink, which was banned in 1903.
This method includes a more complex and lengthy process, for which a special Armagnac alambik (distillation cube) is used. As a result of this distillation, only the “heart” of the distillate is sent for aging, and the heads and tails are left aside. The resulting alcohol gets on exposure. It is placed in large 450-liter barrels made of French oak. It will take at least 2-3 years before the drink gets its rich amber color. The whole process of aging takes place in the ancient cellars, which were built more than 165 years ago, in 1851. After the drink has reached the desired age, it is blend with other alcohols, which are selected depending on the grape variety, distillation method and age.
And only after this stage, this drink can be called the Great Armagnac. After the mixing process is complete, Armagnac is left for half a year to be stored in large containers of at least 18,000 liters. And then the French drink starts to be bottled.
